As an independent consultant, previous clients have included the Albany, Fun Palaces, Entelechy Arts, Old Fire Station, the Young Vic, Rambert, Trinity Laban Conservatoire & Mountview Academy. malakaï is currently an Associate with The What If Experiment and InVolve, created the ‘Five Pillars’ iterative anti-racism programme with Simone Watson-Brown and has previously designed and delivered training for Sour Lemons and Fearless Futures.

“Every session was clearly outlined at the start and we were able to work through a lot of content in manageable and smaller ways. In each session I attended everyone was involved […] everyone contributed which is thanks to an open facilitation style.”

– Participant in year-long training, 2022

The training malakaï offers is tailored to the needs of each client and incorporates their practice as an artist to facilitate a gentle, engaging, experimental approach to catalyse anti-racist thought and action. Together, participants unearth the origins of racism – examining the process and impact of European colonialism, eugenics and the construction of 'race' – enabling insights into the legacy of imperialism and how this manifests today both in the mind and in the workplace.

Other topics included in malakaï’s training and consultancy include:

  • culturally-specific listening, belonging and re-imagination spaces for Black team members

  • understanding white identities and white supremacy in relation to privilege; white supremacist characteristics and how these manifest through workplace practices and culture;

  • analysing fragility, burden + the unseen costs of unwanted labour on Black & Global Majority colleagues.

As well as…

  • facilitation training – tips and tricks on how to build and hold inclusive, equitable spaces; knowing your clientele and understanding their needs;

  • co-creation – understanding the nuts and bolts of co-creating projects with a range of client groups

  • policy dramaturgy – dissecting policies and procedures to make them relevant, accessible and tangible pillars of organisational culture;

  • developing future leaders – upskilling Black and Global Majority talent in corporate spaces to enhance skills around effective communication, personal branding and

  • reframing project management – for producers/project managers/fundraisers:: consider how to imbue equity within approaches to budgeting, contracts, audience development plans, recruitment drives, data monitoring and more.
